On February 26, 2024, Jamaica will hold local government elections. It will be the first since 2016.
The leadership of 14 municipal bodies will be elected. Jamaica’s parishes are divided into 63 constituencies with 228 electoral divisions. Councilors and mayors are elected to develop, manage, and maintain infrastructure and public facilities within these divisions.
The election will be overseen by Electoral Services International’s customer the Electoral Office of Jamaica (ECJ). They are urging employers to allow employees sufficient time off work to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Police officers, soldiers, and election day workers took part in early voting on February 22, 2024.
These local elections were postponed a number of times for various reasons, one of which was the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago.
ESI was pleased to supply the ECJ with election materials for this long-anticipated democratic event. We certainly wish the Electoral Office the very best and we thank them for their loyal support.
